Ballet the cour

 

  • It's the golden age of ballet.

  • It was the result of the collaboration of protegés of the king: the playwright Molière, the composer J.B:Lully and the choreographer P.Beauchamp.

  • It was a danced theatrical play, wich startes with an instrumental 'ouverture' and ended with a 'grand ballet'.

  • It consisted of a series of 'entrées' or scenes in which the singing and the dancing were mixed.

  • Dancers, only male at first, were decorates with luxurious clothes and masks.

 

Social Dance
  • Most frequently combination: Allemande and the Courante.

  • Bourré: French circle dance, with fast movements and a binary rhythm.

      Chaconne: Spanish sung dance, calm, ternary rhythm.

      Sarabande: Spanish solemn dance, slow, ternary rhythm.

      Gigue: English fast dance in 6/8 time.
